TraffLab Research Fellow
and Assistant Editor –
Ph.D. Candidate

Jade Kosché

Jade Kosché is a legal academic interested in examining the effects of multinational business on workers’ labor rights in low- and middle-income countries. Jade is currently pursuing her DPhil (PhD) at the University of Oxford’s Centre for Socio-Legal Studies. Her doctoral research employs ethnographic methods to investigate the societal effects of a private labor governance program, the Gender Justice Program in Lesotho. The program is intended to combat gender-based violence—a phenomenon prevalent in the factories and throughout the global garment manufacturing sector. The program is one of only four of its kind, leveraging the purchasing power of multinational brands via contractual arrangements between the brands and workers. Her research is funded by the UK Research and Innovation’s Economic and Social Research Council through a Doctoral Training Partnership.

Originally from California, Jade received her AA, summa cum laude, from Los Angeles Valley College and her JD, magna cum laude, from Trinity Law School. Jade completed her LLM, summa cum laude, in international business law at Tel Aviv University under a Fulbright Fellowship in 2021, then wrote her LLM thesis in international private law in 2022 with the Zvi Meitar Center for Advanced Legal Studies.

She has a range of experience in editing and producing legal scholarship, performing research assistance, and working as an attorney. She currently serves as Junior Editor of Theoretical Inquiries in Law, a highly-ranked English-language doctrinal law journal. During her time at Trinity, she served as Executive Editor of Trinity Law Review. Jade has served as a research assistant for Dean Yofi Tirosh, conducting comparative law research on sex segregation in Israel. While researching human trafficking in Cambodia, she also authored a manual, which is used to train non-governmental organization workers and inform anti-human trafficking project planning worldwide. Jade briefly practiced labor and employment law in Los Angeles, California, her hometown.

Jade enjoys volunteering as a mentor with Fulbright Lotus, an organization dedicated to improving access to the Fulbright Program for Asian Americans. She also volunteers as an advisor for Fulbright Israel’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative.

Research at TraffLab: Jade has worked as a research fellow with the TraffLab Project and its principal investigator, Professor Hila Shamir, since 2019. Jade serves as an assistant editor for the forthcoming book, Modern Slavery and the Governance of Global Value Chains, to be published by Cambridge University Press.
